Traditional, religious leaders, NUJ laud outgoing Oyo CP over promotion to AIG rank

Traditional, religious leaders, and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) have described the brief stay of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, now Assistant Inspector General of Police in Oyo State, as memorable.

The Chairman, Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in 17 Southern states and Sarkin Sasa, Oyo State, Mallam Haruna Mai Yasin Katsina, conferred on him Walin Mai Lafia of Arewa Community (Ambassador of Peace) in appreciation of his good works.

HRH Katsina said, “You (AIG Williams) have been able to transform Oyo State within one year. Oyo State has never been like this before. Your tenure as Commissioner of Police is the most peaceful. It is on this premise that I am conferring on you Walin Mai Lafia, meaning Ambassador of Peace, alongside other eminent Nigerians.”

The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdul Ganiy Abubakr Agbotomokekere, praised the outgoing Commissioner of Police for his dexterity and professionalism in handling security matters. He expressed gratitude to the outgoing CP for the prevailing peaceful situation in the state.

The chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Demola Babalola, commended the cordial relationship between the Union and the police. He described the outgoing CP as accessible and media-friendly, emphasizing that his cooperation had assisted journalists in carrying out their duties effectively.

In response, the outgoing CP expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders for their support in ensuring peace in Oyo State. He acknowledged their cooperation in overcoming security challenges and stated, “The security narratives of the state have changed through your support and cooperation.”
