Be patient in suffering, stop attacking Tinubu’s new govt – Onanuga urges Nigerians

Veteran journalist, Bayo Onanuga has urged Nigerians to be patient with the new administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Onanuga, who serves as an unofficial spokesman to the president, made the appeal in a tweet late Wednesday.

His tweet comes amid renewed hardship faced by Nigerians due to removal of fuel subsidy by the Tinubu government.

Fuel price across many cities in the country jumped to N617/litre on Tuesday, from N500/litre a few days earlier, causing the cost of transportation to skyrocket. Fuel sold for less than N200 before Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and many other citizens lambasted the Tinubu-led Federal Government for being so tough on citizens by allowing the continued hike in the price of petrol.

As many Nigerians grumble over the fuel price hike, the government has continued to appeal for patience while promising to share palliatives to alleviate the suffering.

In his tweet, Onanuga said, “In this season of high fuel price, I want to plead with our people to exercise some patience. We are all jointly experiencing the pain.

“All those intemperate attacks against the new government of President Bola Tinubu should stop. Let’s await the palliatives as his government has promised.

“Let’s await the palliatives that will flow from each state as more money is channeled to them from the subsidy savings.

“We cannot go back to the hyper fraudulent subsidy regime where we were spending more money on petrol than on roads, education and health. My people, patience, patience please. I beg you all.

“No country has ever made progress without the people going through some pains. Our country under Tinubu’s watch shall certainly excel.”
