A teacher, Ms. Plaatjies, has melted the hearts of many as she took it upon herself to address the disparity in her classroom by purchasing school shoes for pupils who were in need.
Last week, as schools reopened on January 17, the teacher, who is an educator at Bolekehang Intermediate School in the Free State, shared a touching video on her TikTok account, pointing out the challenges faced by some of her students.

The video showed children in her class wearing worn-out, torn shoes, with one learner even wearing sneakers instead of the required school shoes.
In the video, Ms. Plaatjies can be seen unveiling brand new school shoes from their boxes and placing them in front of each student.
According to the teacher, her intention is to ensure that every child in her class looks equal, regardless of their economic background.
“They come from different families, but they should be equal in my class,” she said.
