Walk Away From People Who Bring Out The Worst In You

Toxicity is everywhere around us. And even though oftentimes we expect to find it in people that we don’t really know, in most cases, toxicity comes into our lives disguised as the ones we love…

I’m not trying to generalize anything. I’m just speaking from my personal experience.

I know it’s hard to start pointing fingers at family members or loved ones. In all honesty, even thinking about it makes it difficult to digest. I know this because I’ve been through it.

But here’s the ugly truth.

Blood isn’t always thicker than water and family members aren’t always what you expect them to be.

It pains me to say this, but family members can bring as much pain and misery as anybody else… They can hurt you just like a random person could. They can take away your dreams, rob you of your hopes, make you feel bad about yourself, bring out the worst in you, make a mess of your life and wreak havoc on your world…

The only difference between them and someone else is the intensity of the pain that you will have to face.

Don’t hold that in you. Don’t let them harm you and get away with that for being a part of your family. Don’t let them play the guilt card. Don’t overlook the role their behavior has in your relationship. You don’t deserve to be blamed. You don’t deserve to be treated that way. And you, my dear, most definitely don’t deserve to suffer.

There is absolutely no shame in walking away from people who bring out the worst in you. Even if they are family, or close friends, or loved ones we used to care for.

If their absence brings you peace and helps you find happiness, you didn’t lose them…

You just made the right choice.

So, don’t be afraid. Don’t hesitate to cut off toxic family members from your life. Just because someone is your cousin, aunt, father or a loved one, doesn’t mean that you owe them your life.  You, my dear, owe yourself the happiness that you so desperately want to find in these toxic relationships. You owe yourself the peace that you crave. So, go on. Give it to yourself. Free yourself from their cage and find who your true self. Heal those wounds. Take care of yourself.

Life is short anyway. Too damn short if you ask me… The least we can do about it is live it the right way. Live it surrounded by people that care for us, people that do anything to be there for us, people that love us more than life itself…

These are the ones who truly deserve a place in your heart. Not toxic people. Even if they are family. Even if they are friends. Even if they are loved ones… It’s just not worth it…
