Mide Martins herself said once in an interview that “they will say Mide Martins is not meant for Afeez Owo”. “Another one will say, Afeez Owo is not up to Mide’s standard. She is too beautiful for him. She is too fine for him. They have been saying so many stupid things.
“Please help me tell them I love him like that, I am sure some people don’t understand why we are together or why we are married. For me that is what they call love. It is very difficult for people to accept that Mide and Afeez are still happily married for more than 10 years.”

This is one very beautiful and successful family who have been relevant in the entertainment industry and are still relevant.
Afeez Abiodun is an actor but he is more of a director and producer. Mide on her own part was born by the late and beautiful veteran actress Funmi-Martins who died in May 2002.
How did this relationship begin?
In the beginning, the union seemed ideal. The partners tried to develop relationships and turn them into something serious. Owo was always their Mide needed him, and she felt she had found a reliable man who could support her in any situation.

Before the death of Mide Martins’ mother, Owo served as Mide’s manager. First, they became good friends, and then grew feelings for eachother. They spent their free time and work time together; it became evident then that a wedding was just around the corner.
She said she used to call him ‘boda Afeez’ and that after her mum died, he was the only one who was there for her through the thick and thin and they fell in love. It was time to marry and there was still no one to marry except this “lovable, caring and dependable” husband of hers who she is grateful to God for.
I think what people do not understand is that life doesn’t have to go the way you think it will go or should go. The fact that he is not what you think he is outwardly doesn’t mean that he isn’t the best for her, he possesses what many people do not have and they have been together for so long.
You would agree that Afeez is not a ‘Prince Charming’ unlike his beautiful wife. Well, Mide gave a reason why she agreed to date him 20 years ago.
She confessed that she rejected him when he initially asked her out.
“Of course, it sounded strange when he initially came up with that idea, I asked him if he was okay. I did not even think it would be possible because I saw him like my brother and we were very close. Initially, I told him it was not possible for us to become lovers but with time, I saw some qualities in him which I admired.”
The qualities the beautiful actress and now mother of two saw was not money because Afeez wasn’t rich or good-looking then.
Maybe she can explain in her own words, “He proved to be a reliable person. He is faithful, caring and has a good heart plus the fact that he is very easy-going. All of these appealed to me and I reasoned that I should give him a chance in my life.”
Still staying happily married 19 years after, Mide would advise any lady seeking a man to marry to adhere to this advice:
First, she proffered patience.
“It is good to be patient because not all that glitters is gold. My marriage has been a success because I practised patience. When we started, things were not as smooth as I wanted it to be but I was patient with him. We had our good and bad times but it’s necessary that you remain calm during the bad times.”
This is her number two advice—shun money.
She advised in an interview with PUNCH:
“Remember that money does not guarantee happiness. Bachelors and spinsters should marry someone that is reliable and makes them happy.”
The third tip on how to get a good husband is from Afeez. A actor/producer/director, he should be able to know who the ‘good girls’ are.
Advising women, Afeez said he married not only a beautiful woman but one who one who has motherly traits.
He said, “My wife is beautiful and I realised that she is a simple person who has got a good head on her shoulders. When my ex-girlfriend cheated on me then, she was one of the people who begged on her behalf but I had already made up my mind. It was after a while I started dating Mide. We have been married for almost 19 years now and she is like my mother and I love her so much.”
